The most useful Twitter search today…

Today I was sick of getting tons of useless tweets from people I don’t know, don’t care about, and don’t want to have to keep un-following. So I went to search.twitter.com and tried typing in something:

"happy hour" near:Manhattan

I scrolled down a bit and found a link to this: Poorbuthungry, a cool web app / site for affordable eating and drinking in New York! Completely different than what a Google search returns.

Interestingly enough, aside from the semi-useful tweets in my TweetDeck, Twitter’s search capabilities are becoming more and more advanced and both geo-and-event specific. Could Twitter become a new just-in-time micro-Meetup? It would be pretty cool if I could Tweet that I would like to meetup with between 3 - 5 new people in the East Village tonight for happy hour, suggest a place, and then a few hours later there is a ‘flashmob’ that has gathered at, say, Burp Castle, all via a simple Tweet!
