Our favorite IA / UX software

There have been a lot of discussion on LinkedIn and other various places (here, here, and here for instance) about best practices and software for IA (Information Architecture) and UX (User Experience) work. And with good reason. It is such a nebulous field, especially with different departments requiring different types of deliverables (functional specs for developers, wireframes for designers, site maps for account managers, etc.). And with so many competing sofware packages (Illustrator, Visio, Axure..), how do you define a best-of-breed application?

Simple. Define it as OmniGraffle Pro.

OmniGraffle Pro is so cool, it allows developers and 3rd parties to create all sorts of vector stencils that can be added to the Library folder of OmniGraffle under Application Support (this is the folder structure on a Mac at least). Here at SignalFive, we have been using the Social Media stencils heavily, especially when prototyping ratings systems, embed popups, and the like.
